Major League Wrestling has already found someone to take over Mike Kitlas’ former position, and it’s a familiar name from AEW. Rafael Morffi, who previously worked behind the scenes for Tony Khan’s promotion, has stepped into the role of Senior Director of Live Events at MLW.
Earlier this evening, it revealed that Kitlas had departed MLW after serving as Senior Director of Live Events since 2019. Kitlas, who previously worked for Madison Square Garden, has moved on to a new position with Real American Freestyle. Now, there’s an update on who replaced him — and it turns out the change actually happened weeks ago.
According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, Morffi took over Kitlas’ position approximately one month ago. Morffi is no stranger to the professional wrestling business, having previously worked with AEW in live event operations. His move to MLW brings someone with experience working for a major wrestling promotion into a position responsible for overseeing the company’s live events.
As for Kitlas, his departure ends a lengthy run with MLW. He had been with the promotion since 2019 and was considered an important part of its operations. PWInsider noted that he was extremely well-liked within the company and was known for being among the first people to arrive at venues and the last to leave.
Kitlas was also heavily involved in nearly every aspect of MLW’s live event business, making his departure a notable change behind the scenes. The timing of Morffi’s arrival is particularly interesting because his appointment had already taken place about a month before Kitlas’ departure became public. That means MLW had already made the transition before the news surfaced.
With Morffi now handling the position and Kitlas moving on to Real American Freestyle, MLW’s live events department has entered a new chapter. The company is bringing in someone with AEW experience while saying goodbye to a longtime executive who had been part of its operations for seven years.
