Flip Gordon is putting the uniform back on, but he wants wrestling fans to know he is not hanging up his boots. The CMLL star revealed on September 17, 2026 that he has officially reenlisted in the Army National Guard, returning to military service years after completing his original enlistment while making it clear that Flip Gordon is still very much alive inside the ring.
Gordon has been balancing two very different worlds for most of his adult life. Before wrestling became his full-time career, he spent six years in the Army National Guard while simultaneously trying to break into professional wrestling, eventually finishing his original military commitment in 2018.
Now, after 11 years of traveling the world as a professional wrestler, Gordon says there was still one unfinished piece of his life that he wanted to go back and complete. Gordon dropped the news on X and immediately shut down any idea that his reenlistment means he is walking away from wrestling.
“A new chapter. Same mission. 🇺🇸 After 11 years of living my dream around the world as a professional wrestler, I’ve decided to finish something I started a long time ago. I have officially reenlisted in the Army National Guard. 🇺🇸 But make no mistake… Wrestling isn’t over. Flip Gordon isn’t finished. I’ll be back in the ring. I’ll be back in Mexico. And I’ll be back representing CMLL. 🇲🇽 Thank you to everyone who has supported me through every chapter of this journey. Soldier. Wrestler. Husband. Father. The Super Soldier of Lucha Libre will return. 🫡”
The military connection isn’t some gimmick Gordon invented for wrestling. He previously served in the Army National Guard as a combat engineer before his original enlistment ended, all while his wrestling career was taking off.
That background eventually became part of his wrestling identity, and CMLL now presents Gordon as “El Súper Soldado del CMLL.” His career in Mexico has become a major part of his life, and Gordon made sure his announcement included a promise that he will return to Mexico and continue representing the promotion.
Gordon has been working internationally for years, including a run that saw him mix it up with some of the biggest names from Mexico, Japan and the United States. Ringside News previously covered his involvement in CMLL’s 2024 International Grand Prix, where he represented Team World alongside names such as Claudio Castagnoli, Kyle Fletcher and Rocky Romero.
Long before his current CMLL run, Gordon also became a major name on the independent scene through Ring of Honor and the original All In event. Now Gordon is going back to where part of his story started. The big takeaway is that this is not a retirement announcement. Gordon is reenlisting, but he is also publicly promising another run inside the ring, another trip back to Mexico and another chapter with CMLL once his military responsibilities allow it.
Flip Gordon spent years being known as the guy who somehow balanced wrestling with the Army National Guard, and now he’s signing up to do it all over again. The “Super Soldier of Lucha Libre” is heading back into uniform, but by his own words, wrestling fans haven’t seen the last flip yet.
