Tony D’Angelo is looking back at everything he accomplished in NXT after losing the brand’s biggest prize, and fans have already decided what they think should happen next. After D’Angelo posted a simple “thank you” alongside photos from his championship runs, his comments quickly filled up with calls for a main-roster move.
D’Angelo took to Instagram following his NXT Championship loss at Heatwave and uploaded a collection of photos from his time holding gold in NXT. The pictures covered a career that eventually saw Tony D become an NXT Grand Slam Champion. D’Angelo didn’t say anything about leaving NXT or getting called up. His entire message was simply: “First ever NXT Grand Slam Champion. Thank you.”
Fans did the rest. With D’Angelo having just dropped the NXT Championship to Grayson Waller, plenty of people immediately jumped into the comments convinced that the main roster should be his next stop: “Call up time!” Another fan wrote: “To the main roster 🔥” The same prediction kept popping up throughout the comments.
“Main roster time 🔥🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏”
Some fans already have a brand picked out for him: “Tony D to SmackDown 🔥” Another fan treated the move like the natural next step: “Next destination, MAIN ROSTER. See you in there captain 🤘🏻🔥”
To be clear, D’Angelo never indicated in the post that he was leaving NXT. There’s also been no announcement from WWE about a call-up. That part is entirely coming from fans reacting to the timing of his post and everything he has already accomplished on the brand.
D’Angelo lost the NXT Championship to Waller in a Fatal Four-Way at Heatwave that also included Cruz Montana and Zilla Fatu. Waller stole the victory after Montana hit D’Angelo with Spin the Block, tossing Montana outside and covering Tony himself. For now, Tony D was simply saying thank you and looking back at his championship journey. His fans are the ones already trying to send the former Don somewhere else.
