Austin Aries is a champion again. The former WWE Star captured the MLW National Openweight Championship on the latest episode of MLW Fusion, defeating Blue Panther in the main event.
The finish came after chaos broke out outside the ring. Blue Panther accidentally wiped out Diego Hill with a cannonball dive off the apron, leaving his ally taken out of the equation and opening the door for Aries to strike.
Aries then locked in his trademark Last Chancery submission and cranked back hard. Blue Panther refused to tap, but his body eventually gave out.
The referee checked on the legendary luchador and lifted his arm. When it dropped limp, the official immediately called for the bell, giving Aries the victory and the championship. Blue Panther’s toughness nearly carried him through, but Aries left no room for escape once he locked in the hold.
The win gives Aries another title to add to his lengthy résumé and marks a major moment in his MLW run. Meanwhile, Blue Panther’s mistake involving Diego Hill proved costly, as it shifted the momentum at exactly the wrong time.
