Former WWE NXT referee Drake Wuertz became a controversial name thanks to his COVID-denying views, among other things, a few years ago. Now it appears that he has finally apologized for everything during an indie show.

During Juggalo Championship Wrestling’s Powerkeg event, Drake Wuertz cut an emotional promo, thanking JCW and GCW for their support. He said he’s a changed man now; clean, sober, focused, and thinking clearly.

Wuertz also apologized to anyone he may have hurt, offended or misrepresented over the past five years. He admitted he made some embarrassing mistakes and said he’s truly sorry for the way he acted in the past.

“This s***’s really important. I’m here to report to you today with gratitude—towards JCW, towards GCW. I’m here before you a changed man. I am clean, I am sober, I am focused, and I am mentally sharp! I wanna say this—to anybody that in the past five years I may have offended, for the embarrassing actions that I did, for those I misrepresented—I want to genuinely say I’m sorry.”

During his time in NXT, Drake Wuertz was suspended from the Performance Center. The controversial referee gained infamy after sharing right-winged opinions that bordered on QAnon conspiracies. He would eventually distance himself from such stances but it was too little too late as WWE eventually fired him.

While it’s still unclear how the wrestling community will respond to this new chapter, Wuertz’s open apology shows he is taking responsibility for his past actions. Therefore, we’ll have to see if he will eventually get back to WWE now that he is clearly a better person.
