Eric Bischoff doesn’t have much sympathy for fans complaining about WWE’s increasingly expensive ticket prices. If seeing WWE live matters that much, Bischoff thinks fans should save up, cut back somewhere else—or simply get another job.
Speaking on the 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff was discussing WWE’s growing focus on turning major PLEs into entire destination weekends rather than standalone wrestling shows. In his view, fans traveling for events like WrestleMania or SummerSlam aren’t simply paying for a few hours inside an arena anymore.
“You’re not experiencing just a PLE. And I think that’s where entertainment in general is going. Not just wrestling, not just WWE, but I think entertainment in general is going in that direction. And I think it’s great.”
Then came the ticket-price complaints. Bischoff didn’t exactly tell WWE to start lowering them. Instead, he told fans who think the prices are too high to figure out how badly they actually want to be there.
“You’re always going to have people complaining about the price of the tickets, but tough. You know, get an extra job, save some money up, you know, quit drinking, you know, three 12-packs of Mountain Dew during the week and throw a couple bucks in a jar and you’ll be able to afford to go, whatever.”
Bischoff’s argument is that WWE isn’t simply trying to sell a wrestling ticket anymore. The company is building an entire weekend around its biggest shows, and he believes that larger experience is where the live entertainment business is heading.
“But I think the overall fan experience is what they’re focusing on. And I think they’re doing it smart.”
So anyone hoping Bischoff would join the complaints about WWE ticket prices isn’t getting much help here. His solution is considerably simpler: if the experience is worth it to you, find a way to save for it.
