Eddie Kingston will not be able to compete in his scheduled Continental Cup quarterfinal match on August 22 after failing to receive medical clearance.
Tony Khan announced the change on August 21 during a live video on Twitter ahead of ROH Death Before Dishonor. Kingston had been scheduled to face Claudio Castagnoli in the tournament, but that match is now off because Kingston has not been cleared to wrestle.
Khan also revealed WWE veteran Adam Priest will face Daniel Garcia, with the winner taking Kingston’s spot in the Continental Cup and moving on to wrestle Castagnoli. That means the updated path is simple: Priest vs. Garcia will determine who replaces Kingston, and that winner will then advance into the quarterfinal matchup against Castagnoli.
The news comes after Kingston was also pulled from C4 Wrestling’s Fighting Back 2026 event in Ottawa. Kingston had been advertised to team with Ortiz and Gabriel Fuerza in a six-man tag match, but C4 announced just hours before the show that he would no longer be appearing due to circumstances outside of the promotion’s control.
“We are deeply sorry to announce that due to circumstances beyond our control, Eddie Kingston will no longer be appearing tonight at our event. We assure you the show is going to be incredible, and we will do our best to make up for the change. Please support if you are able to.”
C4 did not give a specific reason for Kingston being removed from that show, but Khan’s announcement now confirms that Kingston is not medically cleared for his August 22 AEW match.
There is no timetable yet for when Kingston will be cleared to return to the ring. For now, his Continental Cup run is on hold before it even gets to the scheduled clash with Castagnoli, while Priest and Garcia will fight for the opportunity to take his place.
