Eddie Kingston has finally explained the health scare that forced him out of the Continental Cup. The AEW star says he has been checked, cleared and is already preparing to challenge for championship gold on August 28.
Speaking during a CMLL media call, Kingston addressed the concern surrounding his sudden removal from the tournament. He admitted that being pulled from his scheduled match against Claudio Castagnoli hurt, especially because he wanted the chance to beat down his longtime rival.
“I feel good. I feel very good, honestly. I have training later tonight. I know people were concerned because I had to be pulled from the Continental Cup, which hurt me because I don’t like Claudio, and it would’ve been great to smack him around a little bit, but I feel 1,000 times better. It was a little bit of a scare with my health. I got checked, everything is good, and I got cleared. Once I was cleared, it was, ‘All right, let’s get to work.’ I’ve been dying to get back to work.”
Kingston had been scheduled to face Castagnoli in a Continental Cup quarterfinal match on August 22. Tony Khan announced during an August 21 live video that Kingston had not received medical clearance and would be unable to compete. Khan changed the tournament by booking WWE veteran Adam Priest against Daniel Garcia. The winner would take Kingston’s spot and advance to face Castagnoli in the quarterfinals.
Concern over Kingston’s condition started before Khan’s announcement. He was also pulled from C4 Wrestling’s Fighting Back 2026 event in Ottawa just hours before the show. Kingston had been advertised to team with Ortiz and Gabriel Fuerza in a six-man tag match. C4 Wrestling said his removal was caused by circumstances outside the promotion’s control.
“We are deeply sorry to announce that due to circumstances beyond our control, Eddie Kingston will no longer be appearing tonight at our event. We assure you the show is going to be incredible, and we will do our best to make up for the change. Please support if you are able to.”
C4 did not reveal why Kingston was removed, but Khan’s announcement confirmed that he was not medically cleared for the Continental Cup. Kingston has now confirmed that the issue was a health scare and that doctors have since given him the green light to wrestle.
Kingston won’t be easing himself back into action. He is scheduled to challenge Hechicero for the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship on August 28, putting him straight into a title fight days after receiving clearance.
Kingston may have lost his shot at Castagnoli and the Continental Cup, but the bigger news is that the health scare is behind him and he is ready to fight again. His first test back will come with one of CMLL’s biggest championships on the line.
