Ric Flair’s war of words just picked up another voice, and this time it’s Dutch Mantell stepping in with a response that pulls no punches.
The situation started when Ric Flair took shots at Stevie Richards and Dutch Mantell during The Ariel Helwani Show, which led to a detailed response from Richards on his own show. Now, Mantell has weighed in on his YouTube channel, and he went straight at Flair’s recent comments about his own importance and how WWE should treat him today.
Mantell said he listened to Flair’s recent interview closely, especially the part where Flair positioned himself as a top-tier attraction who still deserves special treatment whenever he shows up.
“I think he’s lost his mind—I really do. So I’m listening to him, and he’s all over the place, and he’s saying that he’s the big star and that WWE needs to roll out a red carpet for him every time he appears on their show. Now, you know, this sounds bizarre, and because of the way he’s coming across, he is really selling this like he really believes it. And who knows—I think he does believe it. But what he’s pissed about is he didn’t get invited to WrestleMania for some reason, and I don’t think he’s figured out yet why they didn’t invite him.”
Mantell then pivoted to Flair’s legacy talk, specifically how Flair reacts whenever people question what he’s done in the business, suggesting that’s where a lot of this frustration is coming from.
“He’s always going to be on top of any situation. Yeah, I had some health problems—so did he—but his were greater than mine. So I don’t know—I don’t think he can go much farther with this. And when his, as he calls it, his legacy—when that is threatened, he gets upset. It bothers him immensely for anybody to even question what he’s done. And who would question it anyway? It’s in black and white—yeah, he’s won the titles 16 times. He didn’t win shit—what he won was what people gave him. And I’m giving him his due—he did draw money, a lot of money. But if you’ve watched one Flair match, you’ve watched them all, just against a different opponent.”
From there, Mantell brought it back to his own time working with Flair, using that experience to explain why he doesn’t see Flair the same way others might.
“And the time I worked with him, it was the same stuff. He didn’t have to go over anything with me because I knew what he was going to do before we went out there. So with my match with Flair, I didn’t think it was that good of a match, to tell you the truth. Now, of course, he would blame that on me—I’m blaming it on him because he’s the one who was the name in that match, not me.”
Mantell also touched on how personal the situation has gotten, referencing Flair’s past comments about health issues and even hinting that Flair might want to take things further—before shutting that down.
“So anyway, I think he’s lost his mind, and I think he wants to—he didn’t say this—but I think he wants to fight me, a literal real fight, which I’m not going to do. And he said I was sick, but not as sick as he was. Thank you, Ric, for the rub. It gives me something to talk about—somebody to curse or cuss out. And he is a good topic.”
And Mantell didn’t ease up heading into the finish as he questioned Flair’s credibility outright, tying it back to how Flair has always presented himself both in and out of wrestling.
“I don’t believe that as far as I could throw Ric Flair, which would be maybe six inches. But sometimes he does things that, like I said, I don’t even think Ric Flair could do what he says he’s done. You can’t believe a word he says, and he’s always been this way. I think a lot of times he just got by—his days in Charlotte—he got by because he was a champion and he was drawing a little money. He drew money because they put the whole show around him and his group.
That’s what it’s supposed to do—that’s what a good wrestling territory is supposed to do—get a guy who is memorable, and you kind of want to like him, but then on TV you end up kind of hating him. “But I didn’t know that extended to real life. Now you hear him talk in a bar and you say, ‘Shut the f*** up. Damn—who believes that crap?’”
With Richards already going at Flair and Mantell now piling on with his own perspective, this situation has clearly moved beyond a one-on-one exchange. Multiple voices are now taking aim, and if Flair fires back again, this could keep building from here.
