Drew McIntyre’s WWE return does not appear to be happening anytime soon, because his Hollywood schedule keeps getting bigger.

Deadline reports that McIntyre has joined Russell Crowe’s upcoming action movie The Last Druid, which is currently filming in Spain. The cast also includes Stacy Clausen, Pablo Derqui, and Crowe’s son, Tennyson Crowe.

The movie puts Crowe back in Roman Empire territory 25 years after Gladiator. The Last Druid follows a Roman Emperor who discovers a hidden Druid stronghold in the mountains of Caledonia. Crowe plays a peaceful Celtic elder who is forced to fight to protect his family and people from being destroyed.

This is another major movie move for McIntyre, who recently worked with Crowe on Amazon MGM’s Highlander reboot. Between Highlander and The Last Druid, McIntyre is clearly building a real film résumé instead of just taking random side gigs.

That also explains why fans should not expect him back on WWE television right now. There had been online talk about McIntyre returning in time for SummerSlam, but that was not accurate. Ringside News can confirm nothing has been on the table for him creatively in WWE, and now he has another film project added to his schedule.

McIntyre has been circling several Hollywood opportunities since wrapping Highlander, and The Last Druid makes it clear that his time away from WWE is not just a short break. WWE may want him back eventually, but Hollywood has him busy right now.

Drew McIntyre built himself into one of WWE’s top stars, but at the moment, his next big fight is happening on a movie set, not inside a WWE ring.
