Dominik Mysterio may spend WWE television kissing Liv Morgan and getting tangled up in romance storylines, but at home, none of it causes drama.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, the Judgment Day star opened up about how his wife, Marie Juliette, handles watching him play one of WWE’s most controversial characters. According to Dominik, the answer is simple: they talk about everything before it happens.
Dominik called his wife “a saint” and credited her with helping him become the person he is today, revealing that she’s been by his side since they were teenagers.
“My actual wife is a saint of a woman. Shout out to Marie. She’s been my rock since I was 14, man. Without her, I don’t think I’d be in the place I am right now. I don’t know if I’d be alive.”
He said communication has been the key to making WWE’s on-screen romance angles work. Whenever something involving Liv Morgan or another storyline is coming up, he lets his wife know ahead of time so there are never any surprises.
“What really helps us when it comes to being here at home and how I handle work life is we communicate. We communicate everything that’s about to happen. I give her a heads up like, ‘Hey honey, don’t tune in. This is what will happen.’ She’s like, ‘Okay, thanks for the heads up. I don’t mind. I will check it out.’ Afterwards, she texts me, ‘Hey, good job. You guys killed it.’ She’s the best, man.”
Dominik also made it clear that “Dirty Dom” stays at work. Once he gets home, the WWE persona disappears, and that’s one of the biggest reasons their relationship has never been affected by what’s happening on television.
“I don’t come home and I’m Dirty Dom. I come home and I’m Dominik. I’m a caring, loving husband, and when I’m on the road, I don’t bring that work stuff home. She understands that.”
Dominik Mysterio even had a perfect response for people who ask whether WWE’s romantic storylines are real.
“One of the best examples is… someone asked, ‘Oh, is it real?’ I’m like, ‘Well, did Frodo take the ring to Mordor? That shit isn’t real either.’ My wife does a great job at understanding it’s entertainment, and when I come home, it’s time for her.”
As for fans who still blur the lines between fiction and reality, Dominik isn’t losing any sleep over it, as he just lets them have fun.
“Honestly, the fans are gonna do what they want. Say what it is. You can’t control everyone, so I let them say what they want. Let them have fun.”
Don’t expect Marie Juliette to become part of WWE programming anytime soon, either. When asked whether there had ever been discussions about bringing his wife into a storyline, Dominik laughed off the idea, saying she’d rather stay as far away from the spotlight as possible.
“My wife? She would hate it. She’s a bookworm. She’d rather stay at home, have a cup of coffee, and watch Game of Thrones.”
For all the chaos that surrounds “Dirty Dom” on WWE television, Dominik says the real story starts once the cameras stop rolling. At home, he’s simply a husband, his wife knows the difference between entertainment and real life, and that’s exactly how they plan to keep it.
