Dominik Mysterio’s ring gear isn’t just part of his look. According to the WWE star, it’s also there to keep him from getting beaten up even more than he already does.
While appearing on the Amigos Toxics podcast, Dominik was asked whether fans might eventually see him wrestle shirtless now that his tattoos cover most of his chest. He admitted it’s something that will probably happen one day, but then explained why he has no rush to ditch the vest. According to Dominik, the decision comes down to one simple reality.
“Yeah. Like do you know why I wear like the vest and stuff?… Well, cuz like I’m tall but I’m not as big as the other guys.”
Because of that size difference, he believes exposing his chest would only make life easier for his opponents.
“So, very easy target… So, having a very easy target, I like to be covered up.”
The hosts wondered whether the vest actually offers any real protection or if it was simply part of his character. Dominik laughed and revealed it’s much more than just an accessory: “Dude, absolutely.” He then let fans in on a little secret about his gear.
“Bro, my chest piece has, like, some of it has small padding.”
Of course, that protection doesn’t always last. Dominik recalled wrestling Gunther, saying the former World Heavyweight Champion intentionally ripped the vest off so he could unload his trademark chops directly onto his bare chest.
“So it’s like when I wrestled Gunther one time, he ripped that off. Like, he ripped it off so that way he can hit my bare chest.”
So while fans may eventually get the shirtless Dominik Mysterio they’ve been asking for, it doesn’t sound like he’s in any hurry. As long as he’s sharing the ring with people like Gunther and Penta, that extra padding seems like a pretty smart investment.
