The final moments of Andy Williams’ last wrestling match are coming into sharper focus after emergency dispatch audio revealed that The Butcher had “hit his head” on a ring post before the situation turned into a full-blown medical emergency.
TMZ obtained the radio traffic from Mr. Smalls in Millvale, Pennsylvania, where Williams was competing at Enjoy Wrestling’s Five Years event. In one call, a dispatcher said a male wrestler had been injured during a match and had “hit his head” on a ring post. Another call from the venue requested “emergent lifting assistance,” while noting that police and EMS were already on the scene.
Williams had been teaming with longtime partner The Blade against TME when he collapsed near the end of the match. Medical personnel immediately rushed in and began CPR before he was taken away by ambulance. The show was stopped, fans were sent home and the rest of the event was canceled as the emergency continued. Williams later died following the medical crisis. He was 48 years old.
The dispatch audio now adds another piece to what happened inside the venue, but there is still one major piece missing. No official cause of death has been released, and there is no confirmation that the head impact mentioned in the dispatch traffic caused his collapse or death.
The audio shows just how quickly the situation went from a wrestling match to an emergency scene. Williams was still competing moments earlier, and then first responders were being called in as CPR was being performed.
