Unfortunately, Elvis never lived long enough for any of these plans come to fruition. He knows that Elvis versus Lawler would have been a huge draw in Memphis, but he adds that Elvis became infinitely more popular after his death. Lawler isn’t sure that this match would have been as big as we all think it would have been now in hindsight, and he thinks his feud with Andy Kaufman garnered more mainstream publicity than a match with Elvis would have.

He often thinks about how they would have booked that match if it would have taken place, and Lawler realizes that he would have done whatever it took to make Elvis happy.

Lawler informs that he never really spent a lot of time with Andre the Giant when they were working together back in the day, but he thinks a lot of the road stories that we hear about Andre are somewhat blown out of proportion. He says that Andre was a wonderful guy who loved to play cards in his spare time, and he never had an issue with him.

He mentions that when he worked with Andre, the entire layout of the match was up to Andre because he was a legitimate giant and if he didn’t like you, it’d be a challenging night to say the least. Luckily, Lawler felt that Andre liked him and this resulted in him being very easy to work with in the ring. Andre sold heavily for him on many occasions, even leaving his feet during their matches which was a rarity for Andre.

That sums up today’s episode of Dinner With the King. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya next week for another recap!
