The announcement followed Ciampa stepping up to challenge the new champion after his recent victory, quickly setting the stage for Allin’s first test as champion.
Tony Khan revealed the match while promoting the upcoming episode of Dynamite, making it clear that the title bout is locked in for Wednesday night.
“AEW World Title @DarbyAllin vs @MrTommasoCiampa. After his win Wednesday, Tommaso Ciampa made a challenge to the World Champion! Darby Allin has accepted: Darby vs Ciampa for the World Title THIS WEDNESDAY!”
The match will mark Allin’s first title defense since defeating MJF to capture the championship during the Spring BreakThru special on April 15. That title change sparked heavy backlash from fans, with many questioning how quickly MJF was beaten despite his dominant run leading into the match.
