WWE putting shows directly against AEW doesn’t anger Darby Allin at all. Quite the opposite—he loves the pressure and believes that’s exactly when people start producing their best work.
While speaking to Adrian Hernandez, Allin was specifically asked about WWE scheduling a Chicago show opposite AEW All Out and whether that bothered him considering how much AEW means to him. His answer came quickly.
“I love it. I honestly feel like that’s when you do your best work. And it’s no secret that everybody does their best work when their backs against the wall. I think it’s fun.”
Allin also isn’t particularly interested in getting swallowed up by the WWE-versus-AEW war that follows almost every move the two companies make. Wrestling matters to him. It just isn’t his entire existence.
“And my life doesn’t begin and end with wrestling. Yeah, I have so much outside interest and hobbies, passions that sometimes I just laugh at all this wrestling stuff cuz I’m like, there’s a whole world out there. Let’s just like, all right, man, whatever.”
That probably explains why WWE counterprogramming AEW doesn’t feel like some personal attack to him. Give AEW competition, put everyone’s backs against the wall and find out what they can produce.
“But I honestly I feel like it’s—it’s going to be fun. It’s a beautiful thing.”
There are plenty of people willing to turn every WWE and AEW scheduling decision into another battle in the wrestling war. Darby isn’t one of them. If WWE wants to come directly at AEW, his response is basically: bring it on.
