D-Von Dudley believes Vince McMahon could potentially return to WWE, but the final call may be completely out of McMahon’s hands.
During Episode 79 of the “D-Von & The Duke” podcast, D-Von was asked whether Vince could return to the company if the controversy surrounding him eventually died down. D-Von said he has been told that WWE’s shareholders would play a major role in making that decision.
“To me, I was told it’s always because of the shareholders. If they see it to be okay and it goes away, then maybe so.”
D-Von explained that any potential comeback would depend on whether the people controlling the company believed enough time had passed and the heat surrounding McMahon was no longer a problem. He added that the shareholders would also need to decide whether bringing Vince back would create too much backlash for WWE.
“It all has to do with the shareholders—if they want him to come back, if they let him come back.”
“If they think that heat is not there anymore.”
McMahon no longer owns or controls WWE the way he did before the company became part of TKO Group Holdings. That means he could not simply decide to return and reclaim his old position without approval from the people now running the business. D-Von said he knows people are interested in seeing McMahon return, but shareholder approval would still be the biggest obstacle.
“I know a lot of people are interested in having Vince back. First, they couldn’t wait for him to get out of there. Now, they want him back.”
Even if the shareholders opened the door, D-Von questioned whether McMahon could still handle WWE’s creative operation at his age. He said he would want the old version of Vince back, not someone who struggles to understand today’s wrestling audience. D-Von also suggested that McMahon and Triple H could become a strong creative combination if they were able to work together and put the company first.
“I would love to see the old Vince McMahon come back and do what he used to do. But is he out of touch?”
“If you put Vince and Hunter together, and if they can get along and really put their collective hats on and turn this whole thing around, the sky’s the limit.”
Vince McMahon may still have supporters who want him back in WWE, but D-Von believes the shareholders will ultimately decide whether that comeback is possible.
