D-Von Dudley says the attitude toward Vince McMahon has started to change, with people who once wanted him gone now interested in seeing him return to WWE.
During Episode 79 of the “D-Von & The Duke” podcast, D-Von was asked whether McMahon could ever return to WWE in some capacity. The WWE Hall of Famer said he knows there are people who want Vince back inside the company.
“I know a lot of people are interested in having Vince back.”
D-Von pointed out that McMahon’s WWE exit was once celebrated by plenty of fans, but some are now looking at the current product and wondering whether the former chairman could bring something back that has been missing. The sudden shift did not surprise D-Von, who said McMahon is now stuck in a situation where people will criticize WWE whether he returns or stays away.
“First, they couldn’t wait for him to get out of there. Now, they want him back.”
“You’re damned if you do, you’re damned if you don’t. If you’re unhappy and you think somebody else is going to make you happy, then whatever.”
Duke argued that WWE currently lacks someone capable of helping its biggest stars reach the next level. He suggested McMahon’s old-school approach to creative could potentially bring back some of the intensity that fans believe is missing from the product. D-Von admitted he would be interested in seeing the Vince McMahon of old return, but only if McMahon still has the same creative instincts that helped WWE through the Attitude Era and Ruthless Aggression Era.
“If he did come back, I would want to see the old Vince back. I would want to see the Vince McMahon who really had the ideas and things like that, like he had during the Attitude Era, even like he did during the Ruthless Aggression Era.”
D-Von still has concerns about whether McMahon could connect with today’s audience, but he made it clear that interest in a comeback exists. WWE has moved forward without Vince McMahon calling the shots, but D-Von believes some people are already wondering whether bringing him back could fix what they feel is missing.
