Nikki Bella has been pretty open about the headaches of dating again, and now D-Von Dudley has a theory about why finding the right guy might be such a pain. According to D-Von, Nikki’s celebrity lifestyle — and the standards that come with it — probably make her dating pool a little more complicated than most.
Speaking on the DukeLovesRasslin podcast, D-Von was asked about Nikki’s recent admission that she shot her shot with a man on a flight, only to discover he was married. That led D-Von straight to Nikki’s past relationship with John Cena and the kind of expectations that might come after spending years with somebody on that level.
“Well, when you were married, when you were together with John Cena for as long as you have, that’s some pretty big shoes to fill.”
For D-Von, though, it isn’t necessarily about Nikki finding another John Cena. He thinks the bigger problem is finding somebody who can actually handle her lifestyle, because being with someone in the entertainment business comes with a completely different world attached to it.
“You know, and to be able to find somebody that will be on your same level and be able to, you know, and I think that’s the problem that a lot of people are having. You get with people and you like them, but at the same token, you realize as time goes on that they can’t fit in your world. No matter how much they try, they can’t. And I think that’s why she’s having the problem. You know, not everybody is cut out for this world, all the entertainment business. They think they are. You know, they can boast and brag all they want. ‘Oh, I’m ready. I’m ready.’ Okay. And then when the time comes to prove yourself, you look just as bad as the person. I don’t—it’s a difficult situation for her, I bet.”
D-Von also thinks Nikki probably isn’t lowering the bar just to find somebody. After everything she’s accomplished and experienced, he suggested she likely has some pretty high standards when it comes to whoever she lets into her life.
“Well, the thing about it is, you know, it seems—they say all the good ones are taken, but you know, Nikki is—there’s probably some high standards there.”
He explained that Nikki isn’t somebody who is still figuring out what she wants from life. In D-Von’s eyes, she’s been around the wrestling and entertainment worlds long enough to know exactly what works for her.
“You know, she’s just not some regular girl out there trying to make it in the wrestling business and then, you know, what have you. She knows she’s been through it. She knows everything that she wants, and she goes from there.”
The conversation eventually turned into the idea of D-Von helping Nikki find a date himself. He actually thought a matchmaking show sounded pretty funny, but there was no chance he wanted to be the one pitching that idea to her.
“That’s actually not a bad idea, but I’m not the one that’s going to pitch it to her. She probably—listen, she would probably give you a chop and then give you that finishing move that she does. You better watch yourself here, man.”
D-Von obviously isn’t claiming to have Nikki’s love life completely figured out, but his theory is pretty simple. Finding a guy might not be the problem — finding one who can fit into Nikki Bella’s world and actually meet her standards is a whole different story.
