Conor McGregor is shutting down the rumor that he walked into UFC 329 with a bad knee.
After his comeback against Max Holloway ended almost immediately, fans started speculating that McGregor was already injured before the fight. Some even suggested he may have hurt himself while taking off his shoes before entering the cage. McGregor took to Twitter and said none of that happened.
The Notorious One said he was moving, kicking and jumping without a problem throughout camp and backstage. According to him, the knee gave out without any warning at all.
“My head gasket is gone. Destroyed. I had no injury / injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell.”
McGregor’s right knee gave out after his first kick, sending him to the canvas. He tried to continue, but the leg buckled again and the fight was stopped in the opening round. He then left the arena almost immediately, still wearing his fight gear and refusing to use crutches.
The injury was especially brutal because this was McGregor’s first UFC fight in five years. His previous appearance ended with a broken leg against Dustin Poirier in 2021, and now another injury to his right side has wrecked the comeback before it ever got started.
McGregor has not revealed the full diagnosis yet, but he made one thing clear: he was healthy before the bell, and the knee failure blindsided him. After five years of waiting, McGregor finally made it back to the Octagon. A few moments later, he was gone again—and this time, he says there was no warning at all.
