Cody Rhodes just survived a brutal Last Man Standing Match at WWE Crown Jewel, but he’s already thinking about what he wants to do at Survivor Series. And apparently, something Rey Mysterio recently pitched has Cody ready to pick another fight.
Speaking during the Crown Jewel post-show after defeating Randy Orton, Rhodes brought up Mysterio’s proposed five-on-five Team USA vs. Team Mexico match. Cody loved the idea so much that he volunteered to lead the American side himself.
“I’d love something light, something fun, even if it’s fun competition. I mean, Rey Mysterio’s over here on Stephanie’s podcast talking about Team Mexico and Team USA. Sounds great! He’s gonna lead Team Mexico. I’d love to lead Team USA, lead them along, find a team of my own. That’s something I wanna do.”
Cody didn’t leave it as some vague idea either. He directly called out Mysterio and challenged him to make the match happen at Survivor Series.
“Rey Mysterio, if you’re listening, let’s make that happen at Survivor Series. Let’s do that. You’re on!”
That could make Rey’s original pitch a whole lot more interesting. During his appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast, Mysterio revealed that he had already spoken with Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis about putting together a traditional five-on-five Survivor Series match between Team USA and Team Mexico.
“This is a very important announcement. The overall vision of AAA and where it was compared to where it is now shows that lucha has made a big impact on wrestling worldwide. I had a few words with Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis, and we’re going to put together something very special — a classic five-on-five Survivor Series match at this year’s Survivor Series, where it will be Team USA versus Team Mexico.”
Rey has since made it clear that he intends to lead Team Mexico, which means Cody volunteering to captain Team USA gives the proposed match two pretty massive names at the front of each side. Now the fun part is figuring out who Rhodes and Mysterio could recruit to fill out their respective teams.
The timing is pretty wild considering Cody had just gone through hell with Orton at Crown Jewel. Rhodes survived tables, weapons and an RKO before eventually using Orton’s own Punt Kick to keep The Viper down for the ten-count.
Apparently, after all of that, Cody’s idea of something “light” and “fun” is captaining a five-man team against Rey Mysterio at Survivor Series. With Rey ready to lead Mexico and Cody publicly volunteering to take charge of Team USA, WWE already has the makings of one hell of a traditional Survivor Series showdown.
Who would you put on Cody Rhodes’ Team USA and Rey Mysterio’s Team Mexico if WWE makes the five-on-five match happen at Survivor Series? Let us know what you think in the comments.
