Cody Rhodes isn’t backing off what he said about drawing attention to his butt—but he is making it clear things got blown way out of proportion.

After his comments about leaning into a more eye-catching presentation went viral, Rhodes addressed the headlines directly during an April 15, 2026 appearance with Jimmy Traina. And according to him, the reaction says more about how things get spun than what he actually meant. He explained that the situation escalated after podcast clips were taken out of context and turned into exaggerated headlines.

“Well, sometimes you say something in jest on a podcast, and then you know how our aggregate sites—the headlines were literally like, ‘Cody Rhodes wants to start showing his ass more.’ And the scary thing about that is there are certain people who think that wrestling is on X for real, and they comment like, ‘Oh, when is this guy going to stop talking?’ They don’t realize they’re being roped in—the aggregate stuff is working.”

While Rhodes admitted the phrasing may have been tongue-in-cheek, he also made it clear there was some truth behind it—just not in the way people ran with it. He also pointed out that the conversation was tied to presentation and visibility, not anything as extreme as it was made out to be.

“I did mean what I said, though, because my glutes had really been pronounced in the suits I’d been wearing, so I figured I’d draw some more attention to it—that’s all I meant. And it went further than that. I thought, hey, these other wrestlers are promoting their greater assets, no pun intended, I’m going to see if I can get that out there a little bit.

“You know, like Cardi B—there were some folks on X calling me Cody B, and I liked it. But then also, I’ve trimmed way down for Mania, and I think it kind of went… yeah, it usually comes from the face, hips, butt.”

The update makes one thing clear—Rhodes isn’t denying the idea behind his comments, but he’s pushing back on how far the narrative went once it hit headlines. For him, it’s about presentation, standing out, and playing into what works—not the exaggerated version that started circulating online.

With WrestleMania just days away, Rhodes is locked in on the biggest moment of the year—but this situation shows how quickly even a throwaway comment can turn into something much bigger.
