Cody Rhodes isn’t just thinking about his future in the ring anymore — he’s actively preparing himself for what life inside WWE could look like behind the scenes.

While speaking on the What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, Cody Rhodes revealed that he recently took a serious step toward understanding what a corporate or creative role inside WWE would actually look like. Instead of just talking about it, Rhodes said he approached it like a real job opportunity — going directly to WWE headquarters to see how things operate day-to-day and where he might fit.

“So I wanted to go to the office to see what life would be like at the office at WWE HQ. I had a career before as an executive vice president. I failed at it, but I had some success along the way, learned a great deal from said failure—that’s what we need.”

He didn’t go in casually either. Rhodes explained that he treated the experience like a full-on interview process, preparing detailed creative materials instead of just pitching ideas off the top of his head.

“I wanted to go, ‘Man, I’m gonna treat it like I’m going there for a job.’ I’ll write a sample format, I’m gonna write full tech format, times and everything. Not a dreamer one, I’ll take what we have now and put one together.”

From there, he laid out exactly how deep he went — meeting with key figures across multiple departments, not just making appearances but trying to understand how he could actually contribute.

“I’m gonna go and share that with Bruce Prichard and the creative team, and I’m gonna sit with them, and I’m gonna go to CPG, meet with Lee Fitting and his team. Meet these departments—not the ‘hi, I’m such and such.’ We can do that in three minutes. I’m gonna actually know what can I really do for you? Do I fit in anywhere?”

Rhodes also revealed that the process sparked something in him — pushing him to prepare even more seriously by gathering ideas directly from the roster.

“I got the bug. I didn’t wanna be unprepared, because if you came to me as a wrestler unprepared, I’d kick back and look for things to kick back on.”

He reached out to multiple wrestlers to collect potential storylines and concepts, treating it like real creative development rather than just a thought exercise.

“So in that setting, I reached out to as many people as I could on the roster and I said, ‘What’s an idea for you? What’s something you wanna do?’ Some people called me—‘I got this.’ Some didn’t reply, some sent a nice little text with a perfect little simplified note.”

For Rhodes, it all came down to being ready if the opportunity ever becomes real — making sure he wouldn’t waste anyone’s time if he was asked to step into that kind of role.

“And I thought, okay, I’m ready if Ed or someone asked a good question. I didn’t wanna waste their time.”

Cody Rhodes is clearly thinking beyond just being an on-screen WWE star. Between studying production, meeting with departments, building mock creative formats, and talking directly with talent about ideas, he’s openly preparing himself for a possible future as part of WWE’s corporate and creative structure once his in-ring days eventually slow down.

Do you think Cody Rhodes would succeed in a major behind-the-scenes WWE role someday, or should he stay focused strictly on performing as long as possible? Let us know your thoughts.
