Cody Rhodes is not running from GUNTHER after WWE Clash in Italy.
After retaining the Undisputed WWE Championship in the opening match of the show, Rhodes appeared on the post-show panel and made it clear he is willing to face The Ring General again if that’s what GUNTHER wants.
“If he wants one, I’m here for it.”
That line matters because Cody’s win in Turin did not come without controversy. Rhodes defeated GUNTHER after hitting Cross Rhodes, but during the pinfall, GUNTHER’s foot appeared to be underneath the bottom rope.
GUNTHER immediately protested after the match, arguing that the pin should not have counted. WWE later added more fuel to the fire by posting backstage footage of GUNTHER storming through the area after the loss. He looked furious and even threw away a water bottle as he walked off.
WWE captioned the clip by saying GUNTHER was not happy after his match with Cody Rhodes. That reaction makes it pretty clear this issue may not be finished. GUNTHER spent months trying to get his title shot, including cashing in a favor from Paul Heyman and beating Royce Keys to secure the match. He finally got Cody in Italy, but the ending gave him a built-in reason to demand another shot.
Cody walked out of Clash in Italy still champion, but his post-show comment made it sound like he knows this feud might not be over. If GUNTHER wants to run it back, Cody says he is ready.
Now WWE has an easy path forward if it wants one. GUNTHER can claim he was robbed, Cody can say he’ll fight him again, and the Undisputed WWE Championship picture stays hot after Clash in Italy.
