Cody Rhodes has one hell of a Street Fighter story, because the WWE star just revealed that he missed the birth of his child while filming the movie — and the way he found out sounds completely insane.
While speaking with Fandango alongside the Street Fighter cast, the conversation turned to the sacrifices everyone made during production. That’s when Cody confirmed he wasn’t at the hospital when his child was born. Instead, he was on set, flat on the ground, surrounded by other actors while filming a scene where M. Bison’s crew had taken them out. Cody didn’t sugarcoat how bizarre the situation looked.
“I did. I did. And let me describe to you where I was. I was laying in a body pool, multiple men just laying on one another. We had been taken out by Bison’s crew.”
As if that wasn’t ridiculous enough, the scene was supposed to be serious and quiet while everyone played dead. Andrew Schulz apparently had other plans, because Cody said Schulz kept loudly farting while the cast was trying to get through the take. Then Cody looked at his phone.That’s when he learned his child had been born.
“But then I look down at my phone and my child had been born.”
There was no dramatic Hollywood reaction either. Cody basically whispered the news while still lying there on set, and even he admits he seriously underplayed the moment.
“I underplayed it a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. I also was still whispering as if we hadn’t busted the take already viciously.”
So Cody Rhodes found out his child had entered the world while he was lying in a fake pile of bodies during a Street Fighter fight scene with Andrew Schulz farting nearby. You really couldn’t write a stranger birth story if you tried. The cast eventually made sure Cody got to celebrate. Rhodes revealed that they broke out cigars on set after the news came through.
“We instead smoked a very nice cigar on set and Orville smoked one with us. It was a good moment.”
