CMLL is all-in on MJF—and sources say the numbers don’t lie.
According to Fightful Select, the company is ecstatic with how MJF has helped drive ticket sales in Mexico, especially as the AEW star gears up for his first-ever apuestas match against lucha legend Místico at CMLL’s 92nd Anniversary Show.
“We’re told by sources in CMLL that they’re very happy with the business done with MJF on their shows of late. Last night sold out with 7,000 more expected tonight.”
That momentum is expected to carry into the massive MJF vs. Místico showdown, which will see MJF put his CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship on the line against Místico’s iconic mask on September 19 inside Arena Mexico.
The match was made official after MJF defeated Zandokan Jr. in a chaotic title defense that ended with a low blow and a Fujiwara Armbar for the win. After ripping Zandokan’s mask off, Místico appeared and challenged MJF face-to-face, leading to the wager.
This will be MJF’s second title defense in CMLL and his first-ever apuestas match. For Místico, it marks his first mask match since 2017, when he beat Black Warrior in a rematch of their 73rd Anniversary classic.
With fans pouring in and business booming, MJF’s run in CMLL could be a defining chapter in his already unpredictable career.
