CM Punk isn’t mapping out a cushy transition into a backstage power role once his in-ring career winds down — in fact, he’s pushing back hard against the idea altogether.

While speaking on the Pod Meets World podcast, CM Punk was asked what life after wrestling might look like. Instead of teasing a future behind the scenes, Punk made it clear he’s not interested in juggling dual roles or stepping into authority while still active.

“I don’t know. There’s been conversations, and I have a staunch position—it does not work because of my past experiences. I don’t want to be a wrestler and be any type of office role at the same time. I don’t think that works or mixes.”

Punk didn’t stop there. He broke down exactly why that kind of setup creates problems, stressing that mixing on-screen talent status with backstage influence can lead to unnecessary complications. Even so, Punk admitted he still contributes ideas when asked — just not in any official leadership capacity.

“I’m not trying to pull power plays or say I’m any kind of executive while I’m an on-screen talent and try to throw my weight around. It creates situations that can easily be avoided. The only thing I am, other than a talented contracted wrestler, is sometimes an idea guy—if you ask me a question. I think they know that. And if they ever want to pick my brain, they ask.”

When it comes to roles like running developmental or taking on long-term creative authority, Punk made it clear those spots belong to veterans who are completely done competing — not someone still stepping into the ring.

“I can’t be in charge of developmental or anything. This is a spot for someone like The Undertaker or Shawn Michaels—who are done, done. They’re not looking at someone and thinking, ‘Oh, I’m going to beat this guy on pay-per-view.’ I would never do that either, but I’m just avoiding the headache of people being able to say that.”

For now, his focus stays exactly where it’s always been — being a top-level talent without the baggage of backstage authority. With Punk drawing that line so clearly, it leaves open the question of what his eventual exit from wrestling will really look like — and whether he’ll ever reconsider once he’s fully done competing.
