Chris Jericho still has plenty left in the tank, and he’s making it clear retirement isn’t on his mind whatsoever.
While speaking to Dan Marston, Jericho was asked what still motivates him at this stage of his career. Jericho said he still loves creating moments that fans of his work will appreciate, whether that’s in wrestling, music, acting, podcasting, or anything else he decides to take on: “Honestly, things like what we’re doing right now—but times it by a million. I still love doing cool things that people who appreciate my work will think is cool.”
Chris Jericho explained that he feels a real responsibility to entertain the people who have supported him over the years. For him, staying creatively active is a major part of what keeps him motivated.
“I take great responsibility in entertaining people that appreciate Chris Jericho’s work—not just in wrestling, not just in music, but in as many different ways as I can, because to me that’s exciting. Creatively, I need to be stimulated and be motivated.”
He also said his connection with fans plays a big role, though he prefers to call them friends rather than fans: “So that’s one reason. Two, I’ve got a lot of fans and friends—I call them friends more than fans—but people who appreciate what I do and can’t wait to see what I’m doing next.”
Jericho then pointed to all the different projects he has going on, from the Jericho Cruise to Talk Is Jericho, acting on Dexter, and performing with Fozzy. He mentioned that Fozzy had just played Sonic Temple in Columbus in front of 50,000 people.
“So whether it’s the Jericho Cruise or Talk Is Jericho or, you know, if I’m on Dexter or we’re doing Fozzy—we played yesterday at Sonic Temple in Columbus, there was 50,000 people for our show.”
Jericho also shared a cool full-circle moment involving the Way brothers from My Chemical Romance. He said they were huge fans of his as kids, and now he sees them headlining massive festivals while also feeling creatively inspired by them.
“And then afterwards, I found out that the Way brothers from My Chemical Romance are huge Jericho fans. They waited in line to meet me when they were kids, and here they are headlining this massive festival with My Chemical Romance.”
For Jericho, that kind of creative exchange is part of what keeps things exciting. Le Champion then stated that he has no interest in retiring from everything just to live a quiet life.
“And it’s just kind of cool to see how I’m influenced by these guys, but then I’ve influenced those guys, and it all kind of blends in together in a really cool, creative, respectful soup, shall we say? So yeah, I mean, what am I going to do? Retire from doing everything and go take this box and put it over there and grow flowers for the rest of my life?”
He stated that he does not plan to slow down anytime soon. While he knows he won’t wrestle forever, he still sees music, acting, podcasting, and other creative work as things he can continue doing for many years.
“I’ve got no intentions of slowing down. I might not be wrestling forever, nor do I want to be, but you can play music till you’re in your 80s, and you can act, and you can do podcasts, and you can do a lot of cool stuff. That’s what I can plan and continue doing.”
Jericho’s message is pretty simple: wrestling may not last forever, but Chris Jericho the entertainer isn’t going anywhere. Whether it’s on stage, on screen, behind a microphone, or inside the ring, he still wants to keep creating moments people remember.
