Chelsea Green was willing to put her hair on the line at WrestleMania if it meant giving the WWE Women’s United States Championship a major feud.
During her appearance on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Green was asked about previous comments that she would be open to competing in a Hair vs. Hair match. Green made it clear that it wasn’t just something she threw out during an interview. She said she actually pitched the stipulation for a WrestleMania program with Nikki Bella and was willing to be the one who lost.
“I’m so serious that I pitched it for both WrestleMania in Vegas versus Nikki Bella. I’ll lose. I’ll shave my head.”
When asked if she would really go through with shaving her head, Green had a very Chelsea Green answer. Green joked that becoming WWE Women’s Champion had made her a little more protective of her hair, but then explained why she was genuinely prepared to go through with the idea when she held the United States title.
“Yeah, I already have a husband. I’m not, like, dating with a shaved head. You know what I mean? I have a huge forehead. I would look like a peanut. But my husband loves me and he also was like, ‘Yeah, do it. Whatever. That’d be so cool.’ Like, he is such a student of the game. He would love it. Like, he would love knowing that I did something that would be history-making, right?”
“Now I’m the WWE Women’s Champion. I’m not shaving my head. No, I’m kidding. I think I would, but now it was like I wanted to—I so badly wanted to make the US title something special. I don’t know that I was able to do that in my two reigns, but I think had I been able to have that feud with Nikki and shave my head, I think it would have cemented the US title as something that wasn’t underneath this title.”
For Green, the idea was about much more than getting a dramatic haircut at WrestleMania. She wanted the Women’s United States Championship treated like something wrestlers could chase on its own rather than a consolation prize below the Women’s Championship.
“That’s what I was trying to do. I really wanted people to enter the Rumble and when they win possibly challenge the US title holder, not just the big daddy of it all. Like, why can’t the IC and the US title be a part of that conversation? There’s so much possibility then.”
Green said she constantly pushed for ideas that could elevate the championship and make fans care about it. The Hair vs. Hair idea isn’t completely dead either.
“I was just really trying to push for that. I was trying to push to elevate that title. I was trying to push to have people care about it, to not have it be second best and all that. And I wasn’t able to do it.”
“If it called for shaving my head, I would do it. It’s not off the table. It’s not off the table, but I need to be passionate about something. You see, everyone knows when I’m like a ride or die for something. They know because I say it a million times over. You know, right now it’s like, let’s see where this goes. Like, where can we take it before I shave my head?”
Green was ready to sacrifice her hair because she believed a major Nikki Bella feud could have changed how fans viewed the Women’s United States Championship. Now that she’s sitting at the top of the division, she’s not quite as desperate to grab the clippers—but she still hasn’t ruled it out.
