Matt Cardona apparently knew there was only one place Chelsea Green would never think to look for an engagement ring—a tiny Undertaker casket.
During WWE Unreal season 3, Green shared the story behind Cardona’s 2019 proposal, revealing that he secretly carried the ring around in a miniature Undertaker toy casket while the couple was in New York. Knowing how obsessed she is with wrestling collectibles, Cardona figured she’d never bother opening it.
“Leading into our engagement, Matt put the engagement ring in an Undertaker casket. He carried this mini toy casket with him to New York to propose to me because he knew damn well that anything to do with a toy, I’d never look in there.”
That was exactly what made the plan work. Green admitted she spent the entire trip wondering when Cardona was finally going to pop the question. She knew a proposal was coming at some point, but never imagined the ring had been sitting in their hotel room the entire time.
“I was really trying to figure out how he was going to propose to me and when. But I had no idea he had that ring with us in that hotel room, inside that Undertaker casket.”
Looking back on it now, Green couldn’t help but give her husband credit. The hiding spot was so unexpected that it completely fooled her: “It was so good. I’ll give him props for that.”
Cardona and Green began dating in 2017 before announcing their engagement in April 2019. Years later, the proposal story is still one of the more unique wrestling-inspired engagements, with an Undertaker toy unexpectedly playing a starring role in one of the biggest moments of their relationship.
