Chelsea Green has walked away from Twitter before, but this time she doesn’t intend to come back. After everything that finally pushed her off the platform in July, Green says even Ethan Page stepped in to make sure she wasn’t going to change her mind a few weeks later.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet on September 3, Chelsea Green was asked whether deleting her Twitter account was actually permanent this time. Her answer came with a pretty funny warning she received from Page.
“Um, Ethan texted me and was like—Ethan Page—he was like, ‘Chelsea, don’t be doing this again. If you’re leaving, you’re leaving for good this time. Do not embarrass yourself.’ I was like, I love that. I needed to hear that, holding me accountable. But I am done. Like, I’m done.”
That decision isn’t necessarily easy because Green genuinely loved Twitter. It gave her somewhere to be creative when she wasn’t always getting that outlet through wrestling, but eventually the negativity started outweighing what she enjoyed about it.
“Unfortunately, God, I love Twitter so much because it’s allowed me to, like, fill my creative cup when I wasn’t necessarily able to at work. But unfortunately, it has allowed that toxicity and negativity to take over.”
Things reached another level when Green found herself constantly fighting back. She described herself as becoming an “online vigilante,” especially when people made claims about her beliefs or targeted people around her.
“And I was becoming like this online vigilante, and it was just biting me in the ass. And I’m not gonna allow them to tell me, like, what my beliefs are or who I vote for, even though I’m Canadian. We’ve laughed about that. We can’t vote, right?”
That brings things back to what happened before Green left Twitter in July. She had been accused of being MAGA, something she publicly denied while pointing out that she is Canadian, cannot vote in the United States and identifies as liberal/Democrat. The bigger problem was that Green says those online narratives were beginning to follow her into WWE.
When Van Vliet asked whether everything happening on Twitter had affected her mental health, Chelsea Green said yes and revealed that it was even beginning to affect relationships at work.
“Yes. And it was affecting relationships at work. It was like, they were trying to say who I didn’t like and who I didn’t get along with. They were trying to say, ‘These are the people that are bullies. These are the locker-room leaders.’ And they’re still doing that.”
Green pointed to Lainey Reid as a recent example. She said Reid gave an interview completely in character as part of Fatal Influence, only for people online to treat those comments as evidence of how they actually feel about each other away from WWE television.
“Like, I literally just saw an interview that Lainey Reid did about me, and she’s completely in character as Lainey Reid from Fatal Influence. And they are trying to say that what she’s saying is the truth in real life.
Like, be so for real. People, touch grass. Like, realize that we’re living in a soap opera in WWE. When we go home, we are friends, we text, we hang out, we support each other, we share clothes, we go to the gym together.”
Green does admit wrestling itself deserves some responsibility for how blurred those lines have become. Wrestlers have encouraged fans to become deeply invested in them, and she believes that can sometimes create a level of access that goes too far.
“We’ve allowed them to feel that way. We’ve allowed them to be comfortable with supporting us to a fault and dog-piling us. Sure. Like, we’ve allowed it all in pro wrestling. And now the exception is, like, unfortunately, you’re not gonna be able to reach me via X.”
Bottom line: Ethan Page told Chelsea Green that if she was leaving again, she better mean it. After watching online narratives start bleeding into her actual WWE relationships, it sounds like she finally does.
