Charlotte Flair isn’t aiming to be remembered as one of WWE’s greatest women. She wants to be recognized as the greatest wrestler of all time—male or female.
The Queen laid out that goal while speaking to Ilona Maher on Power Hour. The conversation started with Charlotte discussing why her character struggled to connect with WWE crowds despite everything she accomplished. Flair admitted that constantly winning made her the opposite of an underdog. She believes spending the past year outside the main championship picture allowed audiences to see another side of her.
“I’m not taking away how good I am and what I have done for the industry, but I think what has helped my career so much in the last year is—you don’t want to cheer for someone who always wins. You know what I mean? You want the underdog to win.”
Charlotte said being removed from the position she had become synonymous with did not lessen her ambition. If anything, it gave her a new way to chase the legacy she wants.
“By default, this last year, being out of the main title picture—and that’s what I was synonymous with—everything that I do right now, every second, every minute, every hour, every day, I just want to be the greatest of all time. Literally, it doesn’t matter, male or female.”
That pursuit is no longer only about championships. Flair said she has learned to show her flaws and discuss difficult moments from her personal life instead of maintaining the image of an untouchable champion.
“Me showing my flaws and stuff that I’ve gone through in my personal life, and actually being like, ‘It’s okay not to be that perfect champion of what you think a champion is,’ has allowed me to have this fresh layer of paint for the character.”
Charlotte already has a résumé packed with championships and major WWE matches, but she clearly doesn’t believe her work is finished. She wants her name placed at the top of the entire industry—not in a separate category based on gender.
