Carmelo Hayes still hasn’t returned to WWE television, and now another small social media move has fans trying to figure out what’s going on.
On October 11, Hayes had blacked out his Twitter profile picture. He didn’t post any explanation or tease anything else, but the timing immediately got people talking since he’s already been off WWE programming for several weeks.
The silence surrounding Hayes has only led to more speculation because WWE hasn’t given any reason for his absence. His last televised match came on the August 14 episode of SmackDown, where he lost to Baron Corbin, and he hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since.
Despite the rumors that have popped up online, the last backstage update painted a much different picture. Sean Ross Sapp said during a Fightful Select Q&A in August that he’d heard nothing negative about Hayes’ standing within WWE, describing him as someone the company views as dependable, professional and having plenty of upside rather than someone falling out of favor.
Even Andrade noticed Hayes’ disappearance. Back in September, the AEW star tagged Hayes on Twitter and simply asked, “Where are you, amigo?” That post led to plenty of discussion among fans, even though there was never any indication Hayes was leaving WWE or that Andrade knew something everyone else didn’t.
A black profile picture doesn’t necessarily mean anything—wrestlers change their social media all the time—but with Hayes still absent from WWE television and no official update on his status, it was enough to get fans talking all over again.
Whether this turns out to be nothing more than a profile picture change or the first hint that something bigger is on the horizon remains to be seen. Until Hayes resurfaces on WWE television or addresses his absence himself, fans are left connecting the dots.

What do you think is behind Carmelo Hayes’ latest social media change? Is it just fans reading too much into it, or do you think something bigger is going on? Let us know in the comments.
