Bully Ray just fired a massive shot at WWE’s locker room. The WWE Hall of Famer says Enzo Amore, who hasn’t appeared on company television in years, is still a better talker than 99 percent of the wrestlers currently on the main roster.
The claim came during a recent episode of Busted Open Radio while Bully and Nic Nemeth discussed whether Enzo could return to WWE. The conversation was sparked by Big Cass, Enzo’s former tag team partner, returning to the company during the August 3 episode of RAW. Bully wants WWE to give Cass a legitimate opportunity to get over as a singles star. However, he believes Enzo is sitting there as an emergency option if the seven-footer struggles to connect with the crowd alone.
“I still want Cass to be given more opportunities to get over on his own because, if he can, WWE could use one of those traditional big men. He’s seven feet tall—you can’t teach that. But if it doesn’t work, I always think, in case of emergency, you can break glass and call Enzo in.”
Bully then defended Enzo’s work since leaving WWE. He believes Enzo received a bad rap during his original run and has done everything possible to remain visible through independent wrestling and social media.
“I think Enzo got a very, very, very bad rap years ago when that situation happened with him. I think Enzo has done a phenomenal job on his own—grinding, pumping the indies, doing whatever he possibly can to keep his name out there and using social media.”
Then came the line that put almost WWE’s entire main roster on notice. Bully argued that Enzo doesn’t even need the company’s weekly television machine to outperform nearly everyone on the microphone.
“As we both know, the guy can talk. As of right this very moment, where he’s probably either in Asbury Park or Hoboken, New Jersey, he’s a better talker right now, with only social media exposure, than 99 percent of the guys on the main roster.”
That is a brutal assessment of WWE’s current talent. Enzo hasn’t had RAW or SmackDown scripts, major televised segments or WWE’s promotional machine behind him, yet Bully still believes his microphone skills blow away almost everyone who does. Nic Nemeth didn’t push back against the praise. After working with Enzo at independent events, Nemeth said the former WWE star knows exactly how to irritate people in a way that creates real heat.
“Since my WWE run, I’ve been in the ring with him a few times. I’ve been on shows with him, and the dude—not only can he get his catchphrase and the things he does—he rubs people the wrong way in a pro wrestling way, in an awesome, awesome way.”
Speculation about Enzo’s future picked up in May when reports claimed that he was no longer accepting independent bookings he would regularly take. Cass has since returned to WWE, but there has been no confirmation that Enzo will follow him. Enzo most recently wrestled for Awesome Championship Wrestling in New York on August 15 after also appearing for the promotion in July. He remains a regular with Fourth Rope Wrestling and currently holds its Flyweight Championship.
Whether WWE wants him back is another question, but Bully’s point could not have been clearer: Enzo can still grab a microphone and outtalk nearly the entire main roster. If WWE ever puts him back beside Cass, his mouth may once again become his biggest weapon.
