Bryan Danielson may have disappeared from AEW television, but he’s still playing an important role behind the scenes.
According to Fightful Select, the former AEW World Champion remains with the company and continues contributing on the creative side, even though he hasn’t been appearing regularly as part of AEW’s commentary team.
“Yes [he is still with AEW], and still contributes creatively. I’m not sure how often he’s actually at the shows or anything like that, but he still contributes I believe. I know the travel could be tough on him physically. I’m not sure if Brie being on the road for WWE has adjusted things for him, but that would make a lot of sense.”
The update comes after Danielson quietly vanished from AEW programming in recent weeks, leading some fans to question what his current status with the company was.
Earlier this year, AEW also updated its official roster page, moving Danielson from the active men’s roster to the broadcast team, reflecting the role he had been filling following the end of his full-time in-ring career.
Danielson hasn’t wrestled since dropping the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley at WrestleDream 2024. Since then, he’s repeatedly acknowledged that ongoing spinal degeneration has made another match far from guaranteed, even if he hasn’t completely ruled out stepping back into the ring.
During an interview with Justin Barrasso earlier this year, Danielson admitted he still isn’t ready to completely close the door on wrestling again, while also revealing that Adam Copeland helped him find a physical therapist who dramatically improved his quality of life and sleep.
More recently, however, Danielson told Chris Van Vliet that simply traveling with AEW again had made him realize just how physically demanding life on the road remains, describing his hopes of wrestling again as “delusions” before adding that he still doesn’t consider himself officially retired.
For now, though, Danielson continues to have an influence on AEW even without appearing on television. While his long-term in-ring future remains uncertain, this update confirms the American Dragon is still helping shape the product behind the scenes.
