Bryan Danielson’s AEW status just changed on the company’s official roster page, and it says a lot about where things stand right now.

On May 27, 2026, AEW updated its official website roster page to move Danielson out of the active men’s roster section and into the broadcast team section. The change comes despite Danielson being away from the ring since 2024 and working commentary over the past few months.

Danielson last wrestled at WrestleDream 2024, where he dropped the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley. Since then, his in-ring future has remained uncertain because of his ongoing spinal degeneration issues.

In a February 9, 2026 interview with Justin Barrasso, Danielson admitted he was not completely closing the door on wrestling again: “I don’t close it off.” Danielson also revealed that Adam Copeland helped him find a physical therapist who made a major difference in his recovery and sleep.

“In April of 2025, Adam Copeland sent me to his physical therapist. He said the guy was a miracle worker. This guy worked on me for two days in a row, six hours each day. After the first night, I slept nine hours straight. After the second night, I slept eight hours straight. After that, I was sleeping seven or eight hours almost every night. That’s a game changer for how you feel.”

Still, Danielson has also been realistic about how difficult a return would be. During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, he said travel for AEW commentary had made him realize that wrestling again may not be a good idea.

“I had these delusions of, ‘Okay, maybe I can get back and do a little bit of wrestling.’ Now I see that they really are delusions, because this traveling is like… this is not a good idea. I hate the r-word because I was forced to retire before. I never consider myself fully retired.”

Now, AEW’s website makes his current role much clearer. Danielson may not have officially shut the door on one last match, but the company is now listing him as part of the broadcast team instead of the active men’s roster.

Bryan Danielson has already become a valuable voice on AEW commentary, and this roster move reflects the role he has been filling for months. Whether he ever wrestles again remains uncertain, but for now, AEW is presenting the American Dragon as a broadcaster rather than an active competitor.
