Brock Lesnar’s WWE Retirement Still Remains Unclear

Brock Lesnar’s status after WrestleMania 42 is still very much up in the air, as a new backstage update suggests WWE talent and officials don’t believe he’s done just yet — even after that emotional sendoff moment.

Lesnar lost to Oba Femi during Night Two of WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, and what followed sparked immediate retirement speculation. After the loss, Lesnar removed his gloves and boots and left them in the ring — a move widely seen as a traditional retirement signal — before sharing an emotional hug with Paul Heyman. However, new comments from Dave Meltzer are casting doubt on the idea that Lesnar is officially finished.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer explained that the belief inside WWE is that Lesnar is likely nearing retirement — but not necessarily done right now.

“I will only say that, based on people in WWE, they believe he’s not retiring yet, although he is retiring probably at some point this year. I don’t know that anyone knows, this might be one of those things where everything is being kept quiet like the Seth Rollins thing. A couple of people have mentioned it, that’s the belief.”

Those comments suggest the situation may still be fluid behind the scenes, with even WWE insiders unsure about Lesnar’s exact timeline. Meltzer also revealed that WWE had previously planned a much longer program involving Lesnar and Oba Femi — something that would have stretched beyond WrestleMania — but that idea was scrapped weeks before the show.

“At one point, they were actually going to do a (full) feud with Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi, but that was dropped weeks ago. At one point, this was not going to be a one-and-done.”

That detail adds another layer to the situation, especially since Lesnar’s WrestleMania loss — and the emotional moment that followed — felt like a definitive farewell to many fans watching inside Allegiant Stadium.

Lesnar’s post-match actions instantly fueled retirement talk across the wrestling world, but with WWE reportedly believing he isn’t finished just yet, the door appears to remain open for at least one more appearance before he officially calls it a career.

Whether WrestleMania 42 was truly his last match or simply the beginning of the end remains unclear, but the fact that previous creative plans included a full feud suggests WWE may not have originally intended for that moment to serve as his final chapter.
