Brock Lesnar is heading into a Hall of Fame, but this one has nothing to do with WWE.
The University of Minnesota announced that Lesnar will be inducted into the school’s 2026 M Club Hall of Fame after a dominant two-year run with the Gophers wrestling program from 1998 to 2000. The school revealed the full class while confirming the induction ceremony will take place on October 2 at Huntington Bank Stadium.
“The University of Minnesota’s M Club, one of the nation’s largest and oldest varsity letterwinner clubs, will induct 10 new Hall of Fame members on Friday, Oct. 2.”
Lesnar will also be recognized during the university’s home football game against Michigan on October 3 as part of the Hall of Fame weekend. Before becoming one of the biggest stars in WWE and UFC history, Lesnar was destroying opponents on the college wrestling mat. He transferred to Minnesota from Bismarck Junior College in 1998 and immediately became a force in the heavyweight division. The University of Minnesota pointed directly to the numbers behind Lesnar’s run.
“During his Gopher career, Lesnar racked up a remarkable 55-3 record and 23 pins.”
Lesnar reached the NCAA heavyweight championship match in both of his seasons at Minnesota. He finished as the runner-up in 1999 before returning one year later and winning the national title.
“He won the 2000 NCAA heavyweight championship after finishing as an NCAA runner-up in 1999.”
He was also a two-time All-American and won the Big Ten heavyweight championship twice. By the time his college career ended, Lesnar had tied the best winning percentage in the history of Minnesota’s wrestling program.
“A two-time All-American and two-time Big Ten champion, Lesnar ended his career tied for the best winning percentage in program history.”
Lesnar joined WWE in 2000 and quickly became one of the company’s top attractions. He became the youngest WWE Champion in history in 2002 and went on to win the title seven times.
The former NCAA champion didn’t stop there. Lesnar crossed into mixed martial arts and captured the UFC Heavyweight Championship in 2008. He also spent time in training camp with the Minnesota Vikings in 2004 and appeared in three preseason games despite not playing organized football since high school.
The University of Minnesota’s 2026 Hall of Fame class also includes Guillermo Alvarez, Luke Appert, Daniel Croaston, Lauren Gibbemeyer-Mendes, Jody Horak, Sean Lumpkin, Larry Olimb, Sarah Wilhite-Parsons and Lezlie Weiss.
Lesnar’s professional career made him a global star, but his rise started on the wrestling mats at Minnesota. More than 25 years after winning the NCAA heavyweight championship, the university is now giving him one of its biggest athletic honors.
