Britt Baker’s absence from AEW may have been her own decision. After making a shocking return at AEW All In 2026, people close to Baker claim she took herself off the road in 2024.
Fightful Select revealed that Baker’s name came up several times for a possible return during her time away. There were previous attempts to bring her back, and Baker was open to the idea, but nothing came together.
“Regarding her absence, Baker’s name has been brought up a number of times about a potential return. Those that we spoke to in AEW said things definitely picked up when the Rebel Heart Dynamite show was announced, but there had been a couple of overtures in the past and Baker had been open to returning, but it didn’t happen for whatever reason.”
The biggest detail concerns why Baker disappeared in the first place. Sources close to the former AEW Women’s World Champion claimed she removed herself from the road in 2024, though the reason behind that decision remains unknown.

Baker had not appeared on AEW television since November 2024 before returning under a hood at All In. She shoved Maya World from the ropes during her TBS Championship defense against Persephone, helping Persephone win the title before attacking Maya with the Lockjaw and revealing herself. Her return was thrown together at the last minute. Baker was still home on Friday and may not have arrived in London until Sunday morning, just hours before appearing at Wembley Stadium.
Baker’s name started gaining traction backstage once the Rebel Heart edition of Dynamite was announced, but the bigger mystery remains why she took herself off the road in 2024. AEW finally got her back, and it didn’t waste any time throwing her into a major feud.
