Britt Baker wasn’t supposed to be in London for AEW All In, but apparently somebody forgot to tell Britt Baker. After nearly two years away from AEW television, Baker made her shocking return during the Buy-In and cost Maya World the TBS Championship.
Maya defended the title against Persephone, and things initially went her way. She caught Persephone with a cartwheel into a dropkick before following up with a rana and an elbow in the corner.
Persephone quickly fought back with a headscissors and kick to the head before connecting with a missile dropkick for another two-count. The two continued trading momentum from there, with Maya escaping an electric chair attempt on the outside and coming back with a crossbody.
The bigger shots started coming late in the match. Persephone hit a fallaway slam before Maya answered with a stunner off the ropes, leaving both women down. Persephone then connected with a spear for another close two-count.
Maya eventually hit a huge fallaway slam from the top rope and climbed back up looking to finish things. That’s when a mysterious person in a hoodie suddenly appeared and shoved Maya off the ropes while the referee was distracted. Persephone immediately took advantage and hit her finisher to pin Maya, ending her reign and becoming the new TBS Champion.
But the hooded figure wasn’t finished. They attacked Maya after the match and locked her in the Lockjaw. At that point, the identity became pretty obvious, and moments later Britt Baker pulled back the hood to officially reveal herself.
Baker hadn’t appeared on AEW television since November 2024, making this her first appearance in nearly two years. The return was even more surprising because Fightful Select reported shortly before All In that Baker wasn’t in London.
Tony Khan had been considerably less definitive when asked about Baker during the All In media call on August 27. Instead of ruling her out, Khan praised the former AEW Women’s World Champion and gave fans his usual answer when it comes to possible surprises.
“I would say, as with all the questions about people returning or debuting, anytime we’re getting asked about somebody coming back to AEW TV or debuting, I’ve always said, ‘Stay tuned.’ In this case, I would say that makes sense as well.”
Turns out “stay tuned” was doing a lot of work there. Baker didn’t just return after nearly two years away—she immediately screwed Maya out of her championship and made sure everyone knew exactly who she was coming after.
