Bret Hart still has serious smoke for Triple H, and he made it clear that time has not erased everything that happened after the Montreal Screwjob.
While appearing for Inside The Ropes, Hart was asked where things stand between him and Triple H today. Bret said he has tried to move on from old grudges, but once he started talking about 1997, the gloves came right back off. Hart recalled the backstage chaos after Survivor Series, when he punched Vince McMahon after being screwed out of the WWF Championship. According to Bret, Triple H was lucky he was not standing in that dressing room at the time.
“I wish he’d been in the dressing room when I knocked Vince out. I have no doubt in my mind that Triple H would have had the exact same ride.”
Bret then took it another step further, claiming that one backstage encounter could have completely changed Triple H’s personal and professional future.
“I wish that it had happened. I wish he was in the dressing room because he might not be married to Stephanie anymore, or it might not have ever happened.”
Hart said he had a massive amount of anger toward Triple H at the time and described him as a “slimeball” in 1997. He also said he had very little respect for Triple H and believed he was working alongside Shawn Michaels to push Bret out of the company.
The Hitman has made peace with Shawn Michaels in public and has patched things up with Vince McMahon to some degree, but Triple H clearly remains a different story.
Bret Hart may say he is trying to drop the baggage, but his comments at Inside The Ropes prove the Montreal Screwjob still has plenty of venom attached to it.
Do you think Bret Hart has every right to still feel this way about Triple H, or should he finally leave 1997 in the past? Drop your thoughts in the comments and leave your feedback.
