Three years after Bray Wyatt’s death, his sister Mika Rotunda woke up wishing August 24 could somehow be just another day. Instead, she marked the anniversary with an emotional tribute to the brother she remembers not as the terrifying character wrestling fans saw on television, but as “an angel on this Earth.”
On August 24, Mika took to Instagram and reflected on exactly what the date has come to mean to her since Bray, whose real name was Windham Rotunda, passed away in 2023 at only 36 years old. She didn’t try to dress up what the anniversary feels like.
“August 24th will always plague as the worst nightmare, come to reality.”
There was a painful irony in those words for Mika. Bray made his name creating nightmares for everyone else, building characters around darkness, fear and things that went bump in the night. The Windham she knew away from wrestling couldn’t have been further removed from any of it.
“Which is ironic, because Windham lived to play a villain that would creep into the night. But he was the furthest thing from. He was an angel on this Earth.”
Three years later, even waking up on August 24 brought everything rushing back. Mika revealed that her eyes opened at 4:45 in the morning and, for a moment, her mind went searching for some version of reality where the date didn’t carry the same meaning—where three years hadn’t actually passed since the last ordinary moments she shared with her brother.
“4:45am, my eyes pried wide. My brain started reaching for a day where it wasn’t real. Where today didn’t mark three years since I heard his voice, or hugged his neck or told him to come over for dinner. But, today is three years. And I miss him more than ever.”
Those are the memories Mika continues holding onto three years later. Bray Wyatt may have spent his career playing a villain, but to his sister, Windham Rotunda was simply her brother—and three years after losing him, she says she misses him “more than ever.”
