Braun Strowman’s “Get These Hands” catchphrase became a monster for WWE, but getting merchandise made for it was apparently not as easy as fans might think.
While speaking to 10,000 NOs, Strowman explained that after the line caught fire and started trending, WWE still was not rushing to put it on shirts. He said he had to push hard just to get the company to move on it.
“I had to fight tooth and nail for like 2 weeks to get them to do merch with it.”
Once WWE finally did make the merchandise, it turned into a huge seller. Strowman said the catchphrase became a major money-maker for the company.
“It was the number one piece number one selling piece of merch for a year and a half.”
Strowman was then asked whether he got a cut of the merchandise sales. He said WWE talent received a percentage, but broke down how small that number was per shirt. That may not sound like much on one shirt, but Strowman pointed out that the volume made all the difference.
“5%. I mean, $1.13 off of every t-shirt. When you sell a half a million t-shirts.”
That means “Get These Hands” was not just a catchphrase. It became a legitimate revenue stream during one of the hottest stretches of Strowman’s WWE career. Braun Strowman had to fight to get the shirt made, but once it hit, WWE had a major merchandise winner on its hands. The catchphrase came from a live promo, but the money that followed was very real.
