Cody Rhodes is getting his shot at revenge after Randy Orton wrecked the SmackDown main event before it could even start.
Nick Aldis announced Saturday that Rhodes will face Orton one-on-one at WWE Sunday Night Main Event on September 6 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Aldis made the match official in a video posted to Twitter, saying Cody had only one thing on his mind after the chaos on SmackDown. Aldis then dropped the date and location.
“As far as Cody Rhodes is concerned, there’s only one thing on his mind, and that’s revenge. And I’m pleased to announce that I have followed through on the promise I made to Cody last night on SmackDown, when I told him I would do everything I could to make it happen.”
“Sunday, September 6th. Sunday Night Main Event, State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Cody Rhodes gets his chance at revenge when he goes one-on-one with Randy Orton.”
The match comes after Orton destroyed Cody’s scheduled main event against Sami Zayn on the August 14 episode of WWE SmackDown. Orton attacked Cody before the bell, killing the match before it ever started and sending the two into a wild brawl around ringside and through the crowd. Cody eventually fought back with a chair before officials stepped in, and SmackDown went off the air without Cody vs. Sami ever happening.
Now WWE isn’t making Cody wait long to settle it. Rhodes and Orton will finally get each other one-on-one on September 6, with Aldis officially giving Cody the revenge match he wanted.
