The main event between Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn never even got started on the August 14 episode of WWE SmackDown.

As Sami was making his way to the ring, Randy Orton attacked Cody and completely blew up the match before the opening bell. Orton sent Cody into the ring post, hit an IEDDT and then tried for an RKO before Cody fought him off.

From there, the whole thing turned into a brawl. Orton smashed Cody with the steel steps, the two fought through the crowd, Cody used a trash can, and they eventually made their way back toward ringside.

Orton then sent Cody into security and the announce table before grabbing a chair. Cody kicked Orton low, took the chair and blasted him with it before officials stepped in and took the weapon away. SmackDown went straight to credits with the fight still being broken up. That meant Cody vs. Sami never happened at all, despite being set as the final match of the show. Randy Orton made sure the main event was dead before it could begin.

WWE ended SmackDown with Cody and Orton tearing into each other instead of giving fans the scheduled match, leaving Sami Zayn standing on the outside of the entire mess.
