Becky Lynch may have saved Seth Rollins’ SummerSlam cash-in before he ever dropped the crutches.
WWE: Unreal on Netflix revealed that WWE faked Rollins’ knee injury during the summer of 2025, allowing him to disappear from competition before making a surprise return and cashing in to become World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam. The plan worked because Rollins showed up dressed in regular clothes and continued selling the injury until the final second. However, that was not always how WWE planned to present the moment.
During their appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Lynch confirmed she was on the bus when Rollins’ SummerSlam reveal was being planned.
“I was. Yeah, I was on the bus when that conversation happened.”
Rollins joked that his wife served as a consultant while the details were being worked out.
“Yeah, she was a consultant.”
Lynch then revealed that she strongly opposed the original idea of Rollins arriving in his wrestling gear.
“I was a staunch believer that you shouldn’t be in your gear.”
Rollins explained that WWE initially wanted him dressed to wrestle because the angle would end with him cashing in and competing in a match.
“The initial idea was, ‘Oh, you’re coming out because you’re cashing in. You have to be in your gear because it’s going to be a match.’”
Lynch immediately saw the problem. The second fans saw Rollins wearing his gear, they would know the knee injury was fake and that something was about to happen.
“Absolutely not. If you’re in your gear, then they know. It’s a dead giveaway. Don’t do it.”
Rollins listened, kept the regular clothes on and continued using the crutches until it was time to reveal the entire injury had been a setup. That decision helped protect one of WWE’s biggest SummerSlam surprises. Lynch may not have been the person cashing in, but her advice played a major role in making sure the moment landed exactly the way WWE wanted.
