Becky Lynch has opened up about one of the scariest moments of her life, revealing that her daughter Roux wasn’t crying immediately after birth and medical staff had to jump in while Lynch watched from the bed not knowing what was wrong.
Lynch discussed the birth during her appearance on the Harland Highway Podcast. She and Seth Rollins welcomed Roux in December 2020, making them first-time parents after Lynch stepped away from WWE during her pregnancy.
When Lynch was asked how quickly Roux was placed on her chest after being born, she revealed there was a delay because the baby wasn’t crying. She said medical staff immediately started trying to get a response, and those few seconds felt brutal.
“Probably like—well, there was a few sec. She wasn’t crying when she came out. They were like smacking her. Yeah, but it was—those were like—that was some, some rough 30 seconds.”
Lynch said she didn’t know exactly what was happening in the moment, only that she was scared and desperate to hear that first cry. She also remembered seeing what looked like a blanket covering Roux’s mouth while the medical team worked on her.
“Well, I don’t know. It was very scary. It was very scary, you know. You know, and they’re like smacking her and then—and then the little cry and the— No, but I do remember like they had like a—they had like a blanket or something and they were—it was covering her mouth and they were smacking her and I was like, ‘But she can’t breathe.’ But then I forgot that she’s still attached to the umbilical cord, so she could breathe.”
The panic finally broke when Roux cried and was placed on Lynch’s chest. Becky said the emotion hit her immediately, turning those terrifying seconds into one of the most powerful moments of her life.
“Oh, it was just love, you know, love. Like, oh my god, this most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my life. This little cutie. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Easily. You just go, ‘Oh, oh, ah, this is it. I get it. I get it now.’ You know, I understand what everybody was saying.”
WWE also congratulated Lynch and Rollins after Roux was born, and more than five years later, Lynch is now giving fans a much more personal look at just how frightening those first moments actually were.
Thirty seconds isn’t long on a clock, but when your newborn isn’t crying and doctors are trying to get a response, it might as well be forever. Lynch clearly still remembers every second of that scare — and the relief that came the moment Roux finally made a sound.
