WWE talent were reportedly fed up behind the scenes during WrestleMania weekend, as multiple incidents with fans at hotels led to growing frustration about security — or what many felt was the lack of it.
According to Fightful Select, fan interactions at hotels became a major talking point internally, with wrestlers and staff raising concerns about safety and privacy as autograph seekers and fans crowded shared spaces throughout the weekend. Several talents reportedly summed up the situation with a blunt reaction that quickly spread backstage.
“what security?”
There was said to be near-universal agreement across both locker rooms that WWE and TKO should provide dedicated on-site security during major weekends like WrestleMania, especially when large numbers of talent are staying in centralized hotel locations.
Even though WWE typically handles hotel accommodations during major events, some wrestlers reportedly chose to stay elsewhere just to avoid fan crowds — a move that created travel complications but offered more privacy.
Several specific incidents were also cited as examples of how tense the situation became. CM Punk was seen knocking a fan’s phone out of their hand after the person reportedly got too close to Bayley and AJ Lee. Damian Priest also stepped in to protect a female WWE talent when a fan refused to respect her personal space. Booker T reportedly dealt with a serious privacy violation after being filmed inside a bathroom by a fan, an incident that multiple wrestlers confirmed wasn’t an isolated situation.
Other situations involved Seth Rollins nudging a fan who stepped into his path while he and Becky Lynch exited a room, and Sean Waltman dealing with his own fan-related issue during the weekend. One veteran wrestler pointed to a tactic some fans allegedly use to pressure talent into signing items, explaining how uncomfortable those situations can become.
“A lot of fans use their kids to get us to sign things,” a former WWE Champion said. “If we don’t, they put phones in our face and try to guilt trip us.”
Another WWE star reportedly took a more matter-of-fact approach, saying crowded conditions during WrestleMania week are simply part of the reality of the business.
“It’s Wrestlemania and there are wrestling fans in town. What do people expect?”
Even WWE staff members reportedly joked about how overwhelming the situation had become, with one remark reflecting just how frustrated some people felt.
“I think we should be allowed to superkick one annoying fan a day.”
One prominent women’s talent reportedly blamed the situation on poor planning and the unique challenges of hosting WrestleMania in Las Vegas, saying the environment made things especially difficult to control.
“It’s Vegas, we were fcked from the beginning,” one prominent women’s talent said. “WWE never actually pre arranges good security. It’s like they wait until sht happens, then they do damage control or add security. We love the personal security teams, and they did as much as they could but hotel security was busy taking care of the problems you already have in Las Vegas.”
Another former WWE Champion reportedly summed up the situation with a simple but telling reaction.
“It was bad,” another former WWE Champion said.
Despite the incidents, WWE sources reportedly do not expect legal action stemming from any of the situations. However, the overall sentiment backstage appears to be that WWE and TKO need to invest more heavily in security moving forward — especially during large-scale events where fan traffic is unavoidable.
