Austin Theory still has that Money in the Bank briefcase in his office, but yeah, the memories are not exactly all good.

While speaking on the Impaulsive podcast, Theory was asked by Logan Paul if he felt robbed when his Money in the Bank cash-in failed to become something bigger. Theory did not dance around it: “Yes.”

Theory said he was always willing to run the play WWE gave him, but he clearly thinks there was a better version of that story. He brought up his exchange with Roman Reigns, where Roman hit him with the “your daddy’s not here anymore” line, and Theory said that moment could have gone somewhere deeper because Roman was also a Vince McMahon guy.

“I think for me, I just felt like, you know, even with the moment I had with Roman, I believe it was at maybe Barclays Center, and he hit me with the ‘your daddy’s not here anymore.’ In that moment, I wanted to say the same thing to him, you know, because in a way it’s like he was a Vince guy as well. Not in a way—he was.”

Theory admitted he knew WWE probably was not taking the title off Roman Reigns, but that was not really his issue. He felt WWE could have at least made fans believe the cash-in might matter before pulling the rug out.

“But I felt like, yeah, there could have been a moment. Like, I knew we weren’t going to get the title off Roman, but even just building it to seem like, ‘Oh, here we go.’ And then, you know, I could lose to him, whatever, but just give it more of a payoff because it felt cool, man. Like, I did a lot of cool things with it.”

Instead, Theory ended up cashing in on Seth Rollins for the United States Championship on RAW in 2022, only to fail after Bobby Lashley got involved and Rollins finished him off. For a Money in the Bank winner, that is about as rough as it gets.

The briefcase still lives with him, though. Theory said it is hanging in his office, beaten up and dented, which usually makes people think he used it to destroy everybody. His version of the story is a little less glamorous.

“And I still think it’s funny how I have it in my office hanging, and it’s real dented. I love when people see it and they’re like, ‘Bro, you murdered people with that, huh?’ I’m like, ‘No, Brock Lesnar murdered me with it, and it sucked.’”

So yeah, Theory won Money in the Bank, carried the briefcase, had the Roman Reigns tease, and still walked away feeling like WWE left a much bigger moment on the table. The briefcase may be on his wall, but the payoff clearly still bugs him.

What do you think about Austin Theory saying he felt robbed by his Money in the Bank cash-in? Should WWE have built him up for Roman Reigns instead? Let us know in the comments below.
