Asuka has been absent from WWE television for several months now, as she is currently recovering from a knee injury. Unfortunately, it appears Asuka’s injury ended up derailing debut plans for a Monday Night RAW Superstar last year.

While speaking to Pubity, Lyra Valkyria revealed that one match she missed out on was against Asuka, calling it a massive opportunity. Valkyria recalled watching Backlash in France when she found out her debut match on Monday Night Raw was supposed to be against Asuka.

However, due to Asuka’s injury, she instead faced Dakota Kai, which was a match that later became meaningful as their paths crossed again in a major moment. With that said, she hopes to finally get the chance to wrestle Asuka in the future, especially at WrestleMania 41.

“A match that got away from me would be to face Asuka,” Valkyria begins, “That would be pretty massive. When I was first debuting on Monday Night Raw, I’ll never forget watching Backlash in France and that’s when I discovered what my debut match would be, which was supposed to be Asuka. Unfortunately, she got hurt, and I ended up wrestling Dakota Kai, which ended up being quite poetic in itself as we circled back to me and Dakota in a big history making moment. But yeah, that would definitely be a nice match to circle back to, to get to wrestle Asuka.”

Asuka was supposed to take part in the Queen of The Ring tournament last year but ended up being replaced by Dakota Kai, who lost to Lyra Valkyria. It is to be noted that Asuka last wrestled at WWE Backlash, teaming with Kairi Sane to take on Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair.

The Empress of Tomorrow is making good progress when it comes to her recovery, but it is still not known when she will return to in-ring action. Therefore, fans are hoping Asuka will make her triumphant return this year and possibly face off against Lyra Valkyria at WrestleMania 41 for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.

With Asuka on the road to recovery, do you think a match between her and Lyra Valkyria would be a must-see showdown? Should WWE book them for WrestleMania 41? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
